Kids’ Class
Kids’ Class
The Kids’ Class is structured to teach your child basic clay working skills and encourage creativity under the friendly, technical guidance of the instructor.
Hand-building gives children a foundation understanding of how to construct a ceramic piece successfully from beginning to end. They will learn a variety of hand-building techniques including;
• Pinching
• Coils
• Slab
• Basic Wheel Throwing
In the 4th or 5th week of class children will spend a little time learning the basics of wheel throwing. We will only spend a brief time on throwing as it is a skill that takes a high level of discipline, coordination, and practice to get successful results. As children gain proficiency in basic wheel- throwing they will be able to choose projects using either hand building or wheel-throwing techniques.
When you sign your child up for the class we will need an emergency contact number so that we can contact you, if need be, during the two hours they will be in class. If you would like to stay in the building while your child is in class we do have a simple lounge area were you can wait and a wonderful gallery you can enjoy which features the work of our students and teachers. You can also take the class with your child and share in their creative adventures~!
The 5 week Kids’ Class includes:
• Clay
• 2 Hours of instruction / week
• Glazes
• Kiln firing of class projects
• Open Studio
[ students in the Kids’ Class are able to come in during open studio hours
